Go beyond DCTs. Define your platform for flexibility in an uncertain world.

Unsurprisingly, there is a lot of hype around decentralized trials. Yet in every study conducted so far in 2021, executives indicate they are far more focussed on hybrid arrangements as the most pragmatic path forward.

Whilst the world has changed, and we will not return to pre-Covid models, it’s clear we aren’t rushing headlong into DCTs either. What we do want is a flexible, configurable approach, ideally one which can accommodate individual patient preference. We are facing continued uncertainty – less of a new normal and more a series of ongoing new normals – and we need to be able to adapt quickly, painlessly, easily.

What we want is… agility.

I’m putting on a workshop which will enable us explore agility more deeply. That means understanding, with the help of Stanford academics, the rationale behind such an approach. And it also means learning, with help from the technology creators, what is possible.

Ultimately we will piece together a platform that digitizes and decentralizes where it makes sense to do so but works with sites and investigators where needs must and can change rapidly—without breaking down.

As we already know, it’s not the strongest of the species that survives, but rather that which is most adaptable to change. Perhaps this statement has never been truer than it is today.
